Imagine · City of Vantaa · 2023–2024
In the 1970s apartment district of Havukoski, a two-day resident charrette on 2–3 October 2023, run with Tampere University, asked what the area should become by 2040. Residents walked the area, built mood boards and told future stories on day one; on day two they iterated prompts in two groups and applied them to photographs of Havukoski itself. Three resident-written 2040 narratives and a set of AI before/after images went into the published charrette report — and fed the district’s framework plan.
Who took part
People living or active in Havukoski: 18 registered for the charrette, 12 answered the pre-survey, working in two groups on the AI day.
What the tool did
A “future walk” storytelling format followed by White Canvas prompt iteration, with the prompts then applied to real Havukoski photographs; the city republished the scenario gallery on its own news pages.
What changed
The city announced the results feeding the kaavarunko (framework plan), displayed in early 2024; the area architect publicly praised the workshop, and the work continued as the Koivukylä framework plan looking to 2050.
