City of Longevity, Newcastle

Evaluate · Newcastle University / NICA · 2023

At the launch of the National Innovation Centre for Ageing’s City of Longevity initiative in June 2023, the platform was listed among the founding partners — alongside Newcastle City Council, the North of Tyne Combined Authority, the Urban Observatory and both Newcastle universities — to co-develop generative-AI participatory design methods that engage older adults in shaping age-friendly urban space.

Who took part

The initiative addresses older adults through NICA’s networks, launched with founding cities from Buenos Aires to Tel Aviv and a toolkit developed with Stanford University’s Centre on Longevity.

What the tool did

Real-time visualisation of design ideas, enabling seniors to contribute actively to the design process — the method offered into the partnership.

Delivered together with project partners.
